Drawing on Mauritius’ gateway role to Africa, Bank One combines tailored financial solutions and digital transformation to support clients across markets.
Since its establishment in 2008, Bank One has evolved into a Mauritius-based financial partner connecting African opportunities with international capital flows through tailored banking solutions and regional expertise. Headquartered in Port Louis, the bank serves businesses and individuals across Africa and beyond through a comprehensive offering spanning corporate and investment banking, private banking, wealth management, custody services, consumer banking, and treasury services. Combining strong domestic expertise with cross-border capabilities, Bank One leverages the presence of its shareholders – I&M Group, a key player in East Africa’s financial sector, and CIEL Finance, the finance arm of CIEL Group, one of Mauritius’s foremost conglomerates – across key markets, including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mauritius.
This regional connectivity enables the bank to support clients’ growth ambitions while reinforcing Mauritius’ position as a trusted international financial centre. “We are a universal bank. We bridge investment flowing from the UK, Europe, the US, and Asia into Africa. Investors look at political stability, the legal system, ease of doing business, and, increasingly, well-regulated international financial centres. Mauritius ticks all the boxes,” says Chief Executive Officer Sunil Ramgobin.
Bank One’s strategy is centered on delivering specialized, relationship-driven solutions rather than pursuing scale alone. “We want to serve a targeted client base, and we want to serve them well. We are determined to be on top of technology, especially in cybersecurity, data, and compliance frameworks,” says Ramgobin.
The bank is also exploring the potential of artificial intelligence to enhance customer insights, optimize processes, and allow employees to focus on higher-value activities while maintaining the personal approach that defines its service model. “When it comes to proper service, human relationships remain at our core: there will be a combination of AI and the human touch,” he adds.
Looking ahead, Bank One is focused on expanding opportunities in private banking, wealth management, and corporate and investment banking, with a focus on trade finance, supported by rising investment activity and increasing wealth creation across Africa. “Commodities and trade flows, both within and outside the African continent, represent enormous potential,” concludes Ramgobin.
